The Cannon is a Weapon, Ship component and Ship customization Item in Sea of Thieves. They are purchased at a Shipwright and equipped via a Ship Customization Chest.
In addition to being standard equipment on Ships, Cannons also appear on some Islands, where they are often operated by Skeletons who fire them at Ships that are passing by or attempting to dock.
Usage
Cannons are a ship's primary weapons. Each Cannon must be operated by a player in order to fire. They can be used to attack other ships, or players and enemies on land. Cannons need to be loaded and fired in separate steps.
When a player fires a Cannon shot that successfully hits another Ship or an enemy creature, a short upbeat musical cue can be heard by the player who fired the shot.
Cannons also offer the ability for players to climb in and be fired, instead of cannonballs, to reach distant areas or other ships. Players do take fall damage when shot out of a cannon, if they fall far enough vertically, but do not take damage from lateral impacts.
Cannonballs
Cannonballs can be found in Barrels randomly on land, collected and transferred to a Ship's Cannonball Barrels.
- Up to 10 Cannonballs can be held in a player's inventory at one time.
- Up to 1188 Cannonballs can be held in a ship's Cannonball Barrel. The Galleon and Brigantine each contain three Cannonball Barrels, while the Sloop contains two.
- Cursed Cannonballs are cannonballs with special effects, but don't make any holes.

Tips
- Fighting ship-to-ship, plan and aim your cannonballs just below the waterline on the opposing ship, which will hit and make holes in their lower deck. Aiming too high will make holes above the water, which may not help sink the target ship.
- Try to spread your cannon shots out. Hitting the same spot over and over won't widen an existing hole (although it will prevent the other crew from patching that one hole temporarily).
- The Sloop is extremely vulnerable to attacks from the rear. You can be shot by cannon fire while on the helm, the anchor, the sails, or even while repairing holes in the bottom deck. Players attacking Sloops can use this knowledge to their advantage and players piloting Sloops should use this knowledge to guard their ship's weaknesses.
