Cooking in Sea of Thieves renders food into their highest health recovery potential; a prized commodity for The Hunter's Call.

Any Food Item can be placed on a Stove or a Campfire to cook through four gradations of doneness. Only Meat and Fish go through all gradations, any other Food item will progress straight to Burnt. Burnt bait cannot be used to catch Fish.

  • Raw - The food has still retained its color and level of nourishment.
  • Under-cooked - Characterized by pink color and white smoke. Eating will induce vomiting.
  • Cooked - Characterized by golden toasted color, white fish eyes, and a large amount of gray smoke. Eating will heal or grant additional health in reserve.
  • Burnt - Characterized by black texture and dark smoke. Eating will grant a small amount of healing.

Where to Cook[edit | edit source]

Stoves[edit | edit source]

A Stove can be found on the Mid or Bottom Decks of every Ship next to Food Barrels for easy access to storage and supplies.

Stoves can be used immediately for any cooking. When Food is left to burn for upwards of 5 minutes, the Stoves will catch Fire, which will start spreading on the Ship. When the Fire is doused with Water, but the Food is left burning, the Fire will shortly start spreading once again.

Campfires[edit | edit source]

Campfires are found on most Islands and Outposts, for additional cooking.

Unlike Stoves, Campfires need to be built and lit before they can be used. To light a Campfire, Players will need to place Wooden Planks as tinder, and then be lit with a Lantern, a source of Fire, or with sparks from Weapons. The Wood on Campfires slowly burns out and needs to be replaced after a while.

Be aware that lit Campfire will emit a pillar of black smoke reaching high in the air, which can be seen from afar. Campfires can be doused with water from Buckets.
