Fish are passive Creatures in Sea of Thieves, found in 10 different types that can be caught, cooked, and sold to The Hunter's Call for commendations and gold.

This page discusses the fish that can be caught, and not the smaller aesthetic fish. However, those fish can indicate the type of fish able to harvest.

Trophy Fish[edit | edit source]

There are two size variants of fish, the common regular sized fish, and the rarer, larger sized Trophy fish. These Trophy fish are more rare and will put up a harder fight by struggling more and resting less than their regular sized counterparts. Trophy fish fetch higher rewards and more reputation from the Hunter's Call.

There are three Hunter's Call Commendations related to Trophy Fish:

  • Hunter of Trophy Fish -> Deliver 25 Trophy Fish
  • Master Hunter of Trophy Fish -> Deliver 50 Trophy Fish
  • Legendary Hunter of Trophy Fish -> Deliver 100 Trophy Fish (Unlocks a Title of the same name)

Cooking[edit | edit source]

Main article: Cooking

Eating fully Cooked Fish will heal Players and grant a extra reserve of health. Burnt Fish will heal for a small amount. Raw and Under-cooked Fish will cause the Player to vomit, but only by eating two halves in consecutively. This means you can safely consume the fish head or a tail alone, or mixed with other bites of food and not start to vomit.

While Fish can be sold from raw to burnt and count toward commendations, fully Cooked Fish are the most profitable when sold to the Hunter's Call, rewarding the highest Gold and reputation.

Wreckers[edit | edit source]

Found only near Shipwrecks.

Requires Earthworms to catch.

If the fish makes the line touch the wreck while fighting, the line will snap. The best position for fishing is from the wreck itself so the fish is always fleeing away from it. Try to get a spot away from the edges such as a mast spar.

Stormfish[edit | edit source]

Found in the waters within storms. Some types of Stormfish are found only in specific regions.

Requires Leeches to catch.

Note that Shadow Stormfish are most efficiently caught at The Glorious Sea Dog Tavern and Uncharted Island (N-13) as they do not belong to any Region, and as such cut out any chance of catching a region-based fish.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • On rarity based fish, the second rarity and the night variety typically have the same prices with The Hunter's Call.
  • When region specific fish are raw, the rarest fish are worth ten times as much as the second rarest fish. When other fish are raw, the rarest fish is ten times more than the least rare fish.
  • Stormfish and Islehoppers are not based on rarity, but are instead based on fishing location, with the former tied to regions and the latter tied to specific large islands.
  • All fish from specific regions have the same pricing.
  • Splashtails have the same pricing as Pondies.
  • Wreckers have the same pricing as Battlegills.
  • Raw, cooked, burnt, and undercooked fish all count towards the commendations.
  • The large eyes of Islehoppers have a reflective surface, however the reflection is the same sunny, palm-covered beach scene regardless of your location.
  • While raw fish is supposed to make the pirate sick, only eating two halves produces the effect. This means that a player can safely consume the fish head or a tail alone or mixed up with other food and not start to vomit. The player also gets sick if they eat two consecutive fish heads or fish tails.
