The Quest[edit | edit source]
Solving the Riddles[edit | edit source]
Every new Riddle Map only has one line visibly printed on it, telling Crews of a single Large Island in The Sea of Thieves. Players will have to find the named Island via the Map Table and set foot on the Island itself for additional riddles to be uncovered. A single Riddle Map can have 2-4 Riddles based on difficulty, with the first Riddle always stating the name of the Island and the final Riddle describing the location of the hidden Treasure. After solving each riddle, the next one will become visible on the Map for the whole Crew. A Riddle is considered complete once a single Crew member has solved it.
The riddles between the first and final Riddle line will always direct players to a single Landmark of the Large Island, often with general Compass directions or descriptions of the location of the landmark. When the players have located the Landmark, they will need to perform one of the following actions while standing still by the exact location: play a Shanty with their Instrument, read the Riddle Map or raise their Lantern light. Once the correct action is performed at the correct location, the Landmark and the Riddle Map itself will give off a sign (often rumbling or glowing lights) that the Riddle has been solved, revealing the next line on the Map.
The final riddle also leads players to a specific Landmark on the Large Island, however this time, players will need to stand at the exact location, equip their Compass, determine a specific directions stated on the Riddle and walk a certain number of steps/paces towards that compass direction. The final Treasure will be buried in that direction, exactly that many steps away. Players can count steps by holding their Compass close to their face with
Primary Use. Once at the correct location, they will have to use their Shovel to dig up the Treasure Item. The Treasure may need upwards of 10 digs depending on the difficulty of the Quest. Sometimes, Skeletons also spawn around the dug up Treasure to try and keep players from taking it with them. The Riddle Map will disappear or be counted as Complete, once the location of the Treasure is dug.
Rewards[edit | edit source]
Notes[edit | edit source]
- Directions to Landmarks are not in reference to the edge of the island, but the center.
- Players will need to stand still while playing Shanties with their Instruments by the Landmark for the action to count.
- Before the 2.0.9 update that introduced Treasure and Gold to Collector's Chests, Riddle Maps uncovered a random Treasure Chest instead.
