The Cannonball Crate (also referred to as Crate of Cannonballs) is a type of Resource Crate for Cannonballs in Sea of Thieves. Resource Crates can be filled with various Resource Commodities and traded to Merchant Alliance Representatives on Outposts who offer Gold and Reputation for them. Resource Crate deliveries can also be Commissioned via Trade Good Commissions acquired while sailing around the seas. Commissioned Crates reward Crews with nearly double the regular filled Crate's value when delivered to the correct NPC in Time.
Mechanics
Every Cannonball Crate can carry up to 50 pieces of Cannonball Resource items. Only regular Cannonballs can be put inside the Crate. Cannonball Crates can be found on the Seas with a variable amount of Cannonballs already in them.
Player Crews can occasionally find Trade Good Commission Quests from Tattered Parchments, Messages in a Bottle or Mysterious Journals that require the delivery of a filled Cannonball Crate to a specific Outpost Senior Trader by a specific date and time. With this Quest present, Players can pick up an empty Cannonball Crate from any Senior Trader.
Cannonball Crates can be used as portable Cannonball containers to have easier access to ammunition on the top deck of a Ship.
Where to find
Cannonball Crates can be found from the following sources:
- Can be bought from the Merchant Alliance for 5,000
once every three in-game days. - Picked up empty from a Merchant Alliance Representative at an Outpost if the Crew has an active Crate of Cannonballs Trade Good Commission.
- Chance to find beached on the shorelines of Islands, excluding Outposts, Seaposts and Forts (with 0-50 Cannonballs inside).
- Chance to find inside sunken Shipwrecks on the seas (with 0-50 Cannonballs inside).
- Chance to find among Barrels of Plenty floating on the open seas (with 0-50 Cannonballs inside).

Cannonball Crates that are filled with 50 Cannonballs can be sold to:
- Merchant Alliance Senior Traders stationed at the docks of Outposts for Gold and Merchant Alliance Reputation and Emissary Value (if sailing as an Merchant Alliance Emissary)
- The Servant of the Flame at The Reaper’s Hideout for Gold and Reaper's Bones Reputation and Emissary Value (if sailing as a Reaper's Bones Emissary)

If Crews have an active Crate of Cannonball Trade Good Commission in their Map Radial Menu, they can sell a Cannonball Crate to the specified Senior Trader for nearly double its Gold, Reputation and Emissary Value. This bonus does not apply when sold to the Reaper's Bones Company.

Notes
- Picking up and placing Cannonball Crates on a Ship for the first time gives Emissary Grade Reputation to Trading Company Emissaries representing the Merchant Alliance or Reaper's Bones.
- All Resource Crates can be caught with a Harpoon.
- All Resource Crates emit a White Glint from a distance.
- Cannonball Crate Trade Good Commissions are quite rare, making the Cast Iron Merchant Title and Commendation prestigious.

- Cargo Captured → Deliver 480 Merchant Alliance Consignments to the Reaper's Bones
- Plundered Prizes → Sell 600 of any Trading Company items while flying the Reaper's Bones Emissary Flag.
- Fearless Reaper → Sell 320 of any Trading Company items while flying a Grade 5 Reaper's Bones Emissary Flag.
